Can you leave parts in Evapo-Rust too long? ›

First, high carbon parts should not be soaked longer than necessary. Once the rust has been removed, the parts should be rinsed and dried. Second, a further dilution of the Evapo-Rust® formula may have a positive affect.

Pre-clean item to remove oil and dirt. Rinse item and immerse item fully in EVAPO- RUST™ for 20 minutes. Check progress periodically. Once rust is removed, rinse item with water.

Evapo-Rust is a water-based solution and may evaporate. If the fluid level decreases, pour water in and stir. Evapo-Rust has an unlimited shelf life and is reusable until it stops working.

To prevent flash rusting, dip the item back into clean EVAPO-RUST®. Then allow the item to air dry. This process will prevent rust for up to two weeks. Or spray with EVAPO-RUST® to prevent re-rusting for up to one year.

Vinegar is 5% acetic acid and will eat away at metal. It has a very powerful odor. And it can not be re-used. CRC Evapo-Rust® does not contain acids, alkalis, or petroleum solvents, and it is safe on metals, iron, rubber, plastic, PVC, most paints, clothing and glass.

Safely removes oxides from most metals including copper, aluminum, and brass. Can be brushed or rolled on.

It's easy to remove and will not cause problems with paint adhering to the metal. Spray the rotors with Rust-Block. It's safe to use on all metals, and it will prevent rusting.

CAN I DILUTE IT WITH WATER? We do not recommend diluting EVAPO-RUST®. It is packaged at its optimum performance level and diluting will result in a weaker solution which will not totally remove the rust all by itself.

How to neutralize Evapo-Rust? ›

NO NEED TO NEUTRALIZE Once rust is removed, rinse item with water. You can now paint, plate, or apply a long term Corrosion Preventative Compound such as Nox-Rust 3100, Permanent Coating, Corrosion Inhibitor or VCI protective packaging. For short term rust inhibition, simply dip the item in EVAPO-RUST and allow to dry.

No matter what material of your tub, Evapo-Rust® will not harm it. Evapo-Rust® is safe for the user and does not harm brass, copper, aluminum, gold, lead, titanium, steel, cast iron, chrome solder points, vinyl, plastic, rubber, silicone, glass, cork, or wood.

Hydrochloric acid (which is also called muriatic acid in its diluted form), as well as phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid may be used in rust removal formulas using strong acids. These are mineral acids, and they are highly corrosive, especially in concentrated forms.

Let it sit

A lightly rusted piece may only need to soak for 10 minutes to half an hour. More substantial rust on the item may require eight hours or longer. Evapo-Rust will not harm the metal, so don't worry about soaking overnight without constantly checking it.

Bottom line, Evaporust really works at removing rust safely, if you're patient, and it is biodegradable. If the appearance of the item after the rust is removed is important to you, however, you may need to seek another solution.

If left in too long (over 24 hours) a darker film may be noticed on the metal. The dark appearance is from iron oxide II, often referred to as black oxide. Black oxide is a corrosion inhibiting film that is a more stable state of oxidized iron.

To remove light rust, leave parts in the solution for 1-3 hours. To remove heavy rust, leave parts in the rust removal solution overnight. Do not use on parts that have bluing, browning or protective oxide paints, as those protective coatings would be removed.

Evapo-Rust® does not harm paint but you should avoid paints with oxides. Pro Tip: Evapo-Rust® is reusable, so you don't need to discard it after soaking your tools.
